MLK Commemoration Week at NC State

Identity system for MLK Commemoration Week honoring legacy and advancing commitment to collective progress

To commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s legacy and impact on NC State, Multicultural Student Affairs hosts an annual Campus Commemoration Week. For this recurring event, I developed an evergreen identity system that honors his legacy while advancing Multicultural Student Affairs and NC State's shared commitment to progress and community responsibility. I created a bold visual language featuring NC State's red with black and white photography from pivotal MLK moments including the audience at his 1966 speech at Reynolds Colosseum.

Dynamic horizontal and diagonal stripes and geometric shapes reinforce the theme's core as visual metaphors: equality, upward momentum, and unwavering optimism. The resulting identity system spans printed banners, animated and static digital billboards, and marching materials, with accompanying Canva templates and asset libraries that empower MSA to extend the visual language across their programming.
